My personal experience with impersonal support
- Asked for our boot size in advance, but didn’t have the right size boots for me to hire. And instead of letting me know in advance so I could look elsewhere, just rocked up on the day with the closest size he had.
- Did not establish our goal as a group for the climb before the day or even before we started climbing. And when he did have this conversation it was with whoever could keep up with him, not our group as a whole.
- Had no interest in knowing about prior or ongoing injuries we had that would impact our ability or pace.
- Rushed the climb because he wanted to summit and get home as quickly as possible.
- Was willing to let members of the group head back down the icy mountain (that he’d been telling us was so dangerous the whole way up) on their own in the middle of a blizzard.
- Severe blistering of my feet and almost unbearable discomfort from the get go.
- Us finding ourselves in undesirable situations and making unfavourable decisions that could have been avoided.
- Your girl over here with injuries in both knees being in a pretty sore state by the end of it (see last slide).
- The group splitting up and not all of us getting to summit the mountain
- Us not feeling safe and looked after
(Despite the experience, we still made it to the bottom smiling!)
Why Tailored Solutions Matter
- Frustration: You feel irritated or disheartened because despite repeated explanations of your situation no proactive action is taken, leaving you feeling unheard.
- Stagnation: Generic advice leaves you feeling stuck. Without personalised strategies, you struggle to make meaningful progress in your goals.
- Anxiety: The uncertainty of whether the support you’re receiving is right for you leads to heightened stress levels, making it harder to focus on your objectives.
- Disconnection: There’s a growing sense of isolation as you realise that the support doesn’t resonate with your experiences, understanding or needs.
